After your tattoo, a bandage or wrap will be applied. Leave the tattoo covered for two to three hours. When you remove the bandage wash the tattoo with fragrance free antibacterial soap and warm water, pat dry with a clean paper towel-do not scrub. Apply a thin layer of fragrance free healing lotion. Vaseline or Aquaphor are good options.
You can rewrap the tattoo the first night in plastic wrap to prevent sticking to sheets. After the first night, there is no need to wrap the tattoo.
For the next two weeks clean the tattoo twice a day with fragrance free antibacterial soap and warm water. Moisturize after. Only a thin layer of moisturizer is needed, too much could prolong healing time.
Showers are fine, but baths, hot tubs, swimming and sunbathing should be avoided for two weeks.
The tattoo may remain red or swollen for up to three days. The tattoo will flake and may scab during healing. Itching is very common at this stage. Do not scratch or pick at the new tattoo as this will cause poor healing.
In about 5-10 days, you'll notice a new layer of skin forming over the tattoo. Keep the skin clean and moisturized during this time.
Consult your physician if you notice any signs of allergy or infection on or around the tattoo. Such symptoms may include redness at the site, green/yellow discharge accompanied by a bad smell, and/or fever.
